Equipment to have
You must have at your disposal:
- a flat screwdriver
- a wrench to unscrew the bolts
- a replacement gasket if necessary
- penetrating oil (in case of oxidized screws)
- a brush
- protective gloves
- a pair of scissors
- a vacuum
- a window and door seal if you wish to change them
- glass!
Replacement in 6 steps:
Step 1: Unhinge the door
Open the door of your insert to 90° and lift it vertically to unhook it. Place it on a flat, clean surface, inside of the door facing up.
Step 2: Remove the glass
To make handling the screws easier, spray them with penetrating oil and wait a few minutes.
Using your wrench, remove the fixing screws, window clips and seals to release the window.
Step 3: Clean the door frame
With your flathead screwdriver, scrape to remove all glue and putty residue. Take advantage of this step to clean your door with a soft-bristle brush.
If your insert door has pieces of rust, remove them using a wire brush. Use your vacuum cleaner to collect all traces of residue. The result must be as clean as possible, in order to easily integrate your new window.
Step 4: Installing the window seal
It is recommended to replace the gasket every year, to ensure the watertightness and safety of your insert.
Tip: opt for self-adhesive flat joints for easier gluing.
Install the window seals and adjust the length by cutting them with your scissors.
Please note : some doors do not have a seal on the upper horizontal part of the window.
Step 5: Install the window
Place your new window, carefully centering it. Gently screw the fixing tabs back on.
It is important not to force too much, to allow the glass its capacity to expand. Glass that is too tight will crack easily from heat and temperature differences.
Step 6: Hang up your door
Replace your heater door on its hinges. Allow 24 hours to pass with the door closed before relighting a fire, to allow the joints to dry and obtain an optimal seal.
